Sept. 30, 2025

The government shutdown starting Oct. 1st will most likely close all federal parks including the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Home & Library, Eleanor Roosevelt's Val-Kill and Vanderbilt Mansion. While these sites are closed, the Hudson Valley at this time of year is lucky to have many alternative activities to keep you occupied including some state run historic sites.

Here are some suggestions to make your trip fruitful and still action packed.

Staatsburgh Historic Site, or locally known as Mill Mansion, is a state-run site and offers tours Thursday through Sunday. The grounds are open daily from 9 am to 6 pm. (This site is only 5 miles from the inn.)

Wilderstein Historic Site located in Rhinebeck is just 15 minutes north of Hyde Park and the home of Margaret Suckley, cousin and confidante of Franklin Roosevelt.

Admission is $20 per person. Tickets purchased upon arrival. We recommend coming about 15 minutes early as space on each tour is limited.

at Noon, 1pm, 2pm, and 3pm.
Duration of the tour is approximately one hour. The grounds are open daily from 9am until 4pm. There is no charge to walk the grounds and trails. During hours the mansion is not open for tours, parking for the trails is available off Morton Road near Wilderstein’s Gate Lodge.

Locust grove estate
The Locust Grove Estate's main house is a villa in the Italianate style designed in 1850 for artist and inventor Samuel F. B. Morse by architect Alexander Jackson Davis. (20 minutes south of the inn.)
Tours of the house are available Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 10:15 am, 11:30 as, 12:45 pm, 2:00 pm and 3:15 pm. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis in the Museum Shop.
The grounds have 5 miles of hiking trails and are open daily from 10 am to 5 pm. Trail maps are available for sale in the Museum Shop.
